The trait of emotional intelligence and the «Big Five» personality traits as predictors of motivation for success and avoidance of failure in adults
Abstract
Psychological health is assessed as a significant factor in healthy longevity. The preservation of psychological health in adults is one of the tasks of our time. Motivation is one of the factors of psychological health, it is associated with a number of personal structures, in particular with such a structure as personality traits. The article describes the characteristics of the influence of the traits of emotional intelligence and personality traits of the «Big Five» on the motivation for success and the motivation to avoid failure in an adult audience. The study involved 52 people aged 45 to 55 years, among them 13 men and 29 women. The methods of «TEIQue-SF» by K.V. Petrides were applied, in the adaptation under the guidance of A.A. Pankratova, the BFI-2 test, in the adaptation by S.A. Shchebetenko, the tests «Motivation to success» and «Motivation to avoid failure» by T. Ehlers. Statistical data processing showed the influence of personality traits on motivational attitudes in adults. So, emotional intelligence and extraversion negatively affect motivation to avoid failure, conscientiousness has a positive effect on motivation to succeed in adults. In the joint regression model, extraversion negates the importance of the influence of emotional intelligence on the motivation to avoid failures in adults and remains the only significant predictor.
